Several hours ago, Apple held a press conference for their Mac product line up at Apple Town Hall in Cupertino. At the event, Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced a host of goodies for Mac lovers: new aluminium iMacs and updates to their iLife and iWork suite.

We’re 2 days away from August so we might as well get into it. ThinkSecret has been saying that the new iMacs and iLife suite will drop on 7 August. Meanwhile, 9to5mac.com independently posted update also claiming that 7 August was the date for the new iMacs and probably new iPods.

The new iMacs are said to feature a new brushed metal skin, something along the lines of the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro. I’m not sure why they would make the consumer desktop look like their Pro hardware, but I must say that a brushed-metal iMac sounds very appealing.
