MYCocoaHeads ‘Get Back To Work’ Project

MYCocoaHeads in collaboration with myMacBUZZ is launching a project aimed at helping MYCocoaHeads members develop practical skills in producing a Cocoa application for OS X. You can be a part of this project too! Here’s you chance to influence the conception and development of an app that’s useful and works for you.

What is this

The objective of the MYCocoaHeads Get Back To Work Project is to get MYCocoaHeads members involved in developing a Cocoa app. Project members and contributors will get a chance to improve their skills in coding, project management, UI design and even marketing and promotions.

To narrow the scope of this project (we don’t want to bite off more than we can chew!), the app that MYCocoaHeads will be developing is a ‘distraction buster’ or ‘attention manager’ application that helps users to be more productive and focus on the task at hand.

Here’s an example of what the final application may look like. We know it’s not the greatest looking app you’ll ever see and we haven’t even figured out everything it will to do, but that’s why we need your help.

How you can help

The application’s objective is to help the user stay focused on their daily/hourly goals. How does it do that? Well, there’s where you come in.

MYCocoaHeads needs your help to suggest..

1. Features of the app
2. Ideas of how the app will look and function
3. Name of the app

The MYCocoaHeads Core Team will then narrow down the feature requests and allow the public/contributors to vote for the top 3 features to be implemented into the app. Once the results of the vote have been tallied, the app’s official specifications will be published and the Core Team will begin developing the app.

Once a working beta of the app has been produced, the app will be open for beta testing. Here’s where you come in again. We need your help to find and squash all the bugs you find. The Core Team will continue to refine the app based on feedback from the beta users until it reaches 1.0.

Through your feedback and ideas, you’ll help to shape an application that’s useful to you and brings value to other Mac users like yourself. We don’t have anything to offer you in return, except the opportunity to learn about developing software for the Mac and be a part of this awesome project. If the app turns out to be successful, you’ll have a great story to tell and a useful app to help you be more productive.
