Recently my PowerBook hard drive died on me. I keep getting error messages telling me that my disk is full, then it starts making the click of death clicking noise. Disk utility reports a fatal error, you know it’s serious when your Mac actually says ‘fatal error’. Finally my PowerBook suddenly decides to stop booting.

…so that I can buy a new MacBook Pro. Not surprisingly, the answer was no. Sigh… oh well, I’ll just keep dreaming of my MacBook Pro.
I’ve been very tempted to buy a new MacBook Pro lately. Not the new ones with the Santa Rosa Centrino Pro chipsets and fancy LED screens though, they’re way out of my budget. Usually MBPs aren’t even an option for me but with the release of the new MBPs, the models introduced in October last year, i.e. the ‘old’ MacBook Pros, have now just come into reach of my meager salary.

A MacBook with all the latest security patches was hacked in a ‘PWN 2 0WN‘ hack-a-Mac contest at the CanSecWest security conference in Vancouver, Canada, on Friday. The hack made use of a vulnerability in Safari to gain user root access of the MacBook. Shane Macaulay and Dino Zovi, who came up with the hack, won a MacBook Pro and USD10,000.
