Maxis iPhone Review

I’ve been using the Maxis iPhone 3G for about a month or so, and I think it’s the best damn phone ever created.

The hardware itself is beautifully design. It’s slim and fits comfortably in the front pocket of my tightest jeans. I do not use it with any protection. It goes in and out from my pocket, and sometime I put in in my bag. By protection I mean with some sort of iPhone casing, please don’t get any ideas. Apart from finger print smudges there are no noticeable scratches on the screen or at the back.

The phone feels very well build. The screen is glass, not like some other touch screen devices out there. There is an easy silent mode switch on the side, so you don’t have to go through the interface menu to switch to silent mode.

It has the right size for a phone, fits on your hand nicely, yet at the same time it has a large enough screen to watch video with. I the screen is even useable outdoors on a bright sunny day, big win for that.

img_0003Software wise, I’ve to say that this is the most intuitive interface for a phone. A non-geek who have never used an iPhone before, played with it and in no time she’s already on Yahoo Messenger chatting with her friends and checking her Facebook.

As a phone the device works great, as an iPod it’s even better. However what differentiate it from all the other Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola and all the rest of phones out there is the iTunes App Store. Getting an application on the phone could not me much more easier.

Once you have registered and setup you iTunes store, all you need to do is to browse the App Store and get/buy whatever Apps you desire. It really is as easy as advertise.

I’m using the iPhone on Maxis 3G line, and it’s fast enough to get apps straight to the phone. Whenever there are 3G signal that is. Maxis 3G does not cover all area but it’s available in most part of the city.

If you are using the iPhone for surfing, checking email, Facebook, Twitter, Maxis 3G is sufficient. However there is always Wi-Fi is 3G is not sufficient enough. The phone knows when to switch when needed. If you walk out from a Wi-Fi area it drops down to 3G. It will always try its best to keep you connected all the time.

However there are some lacking on the phone. The camera is just well a camera. It has not auto focus or and zooming function. While the threaded SMS layout is nice, but there is not way for me to forward an SMS. There is no MMS either.

In conclusion, the iPhone is not for everybody. If you a serious business executive you might want to try some other ‘smart’ phones out there. I think that the iPhone is perfect for someone who uses iTunes for all their music, listens to podcast everyday, addicted to Facebook and Twitter a lot, someone who is a ‘web junkie’.

nicely put. but not everybody would burn a hole tat big in their pocket for a smartphone. By the time im typing this, of course.. wei is allready in his/her 46th week? and the new iphone 3GS are allready in the market with greater functions and \lack-improvement\ touch-ups.

I bet that is not the only reason.

Somewhere far in the Eastern technology, a similar phone was built, not as crisp as the Apple bites, but the volume, weight, size, looks, and few copies of \touch technology\, \screen tilting\… was actually \improvised\ in this model… better i could say? a 2MP autofocus camera, a dual-standby sim card, full MMS function, add on WiFi and GPS too, good enough to knock-out the smartphone. why? the tag price. just a mere 1/5 from it..

    Back to the draw board…!
