Mailplane 2.0: Gmail gets even better
In the world of webmail, it’s hard to beat Gmail. So how do you make an awesome product even more awesome? Enter Mailplane, an email client just for Gmail.
I’ve covered Mailplane before, and my favourite email client was updated to 2.0 early this week. Think of Mailplane as a web browser that only loads Gmail or Google Apps mail. Mailplane 2.0 adds full support for Gmail 2 and a whopping 41 new features which any Gmail power user will love. Here are some of my favourite features:
Multiple Gmail accounts. The feature that sold me on Mailplane. I’ve got too many Gmail accounts to keep track off and I’m always missing mails. Mailplane tells me at a glance in the Accounts pane if my other accounts have unread emails. Double click on the account name and it loads. No need to sign out and back in again.

Assign labels through keyboard shortcuts
Keyboard shortcuts galore. Oh man, I can’t tell you how much time this feature saves me. Mailplane 2.0 introduces shortcuts to apply and remove labels, navigate to all of your folders and even the Quick Links (Labs feature).

Drag and drop attachments from Finder or the built in media browser
Drag and drop attachments. Drag a file or a folder full of files into Mailplane and it will attach them to your message instantly. No need to navigate endless menus in Finder.
Automatically resize images. Drag images into Mailplane or click the shortcut in iPhoto. Mailplane will resize the image for you automatically before attaching it.
Do not disturb mode. Got a deadline but still need to keep an eye on your emails? Put Mailplane into Do Not Disturb mode to stop email notifications. Work without distractions but your mails are still being downloaded in Mailplane.
On top of those you have Growl notifications, Address Book integration, Omnifocus and Highrise integration, support for video chat, the list goes on and on and on!
If you’ve not yet tried Mailplane, do give the 2.0 version a try. There’s a free 30 day trial and it costs only USD24.95 to buy.
