New MacBook & MacBook Pro break iPhone PwnageTool!

Gizmodo points us to unconfirmed reports that the new aluminum MacBooks somehow breaks unlocked and jailbroken iPhones. Users are apparently experiencing trouble running PwnageTool on their new MacBooks.

Following some investigations, it appears that the new unibody MacBook & MacBook Pro’s is actually  pre-installed with a different build of OS X (build number 9F2114, according to Ars Technica).

Is this another move by Apple to combat iPhone jailbreak/unlock scene with new OS X updates? We shall see. If it really is a move by Apple it is pretty sneaky to deliver the new OS X like this instead of Software Update like we usually expect.

Thanks JC for the news.

Hey wei, I am using pc most of the time, so probably don’t have problem with my iphone la. But I still can’t unlock the 3G version hence have serious problem of dropping line during conversion. Anyway suggestion? Thanks man.

  2. Hi Mr T, at the moment there is still no way to unlock iPhone 3G. Don’t understand what you mean by dropping line. If your phone is still locked, you can’t use DiGi/Maxis/Celcom anyway so how to drop line?

Hi Blogjunkie, Thanks for your quick reply. I am actually using the iphone 3G in shanghai. Yes, no way to unlock at the moment but you could put your telco sim together with a turbo sim inside the phone then it works fine in the beginning. But after using it for 2 mths, realize droping line and undetected sim sometime, very troublesome.

  4. Sorry for the late reply. To your question Mr T, it might be due to few factor:
    - The Telco did a lousy job on supporting iPhone. Same case happen in some other country. Maxis Malaysia was unable to support iPhone until November last year. They have to apply software update in their cell network.
    - Is you TurboSIM original? Not some imitation product? Get official support. The code in the TurboSIM might need some tweaking. Contact whoever sold you the TurboSIM for help. Imitation product are known to give problems. That’s why we buy original.

    Mr. T,

One question for you. What firmware are you currently running on your iPhone? Try updating to the latest firmware (2.1) if you are not already there. The new firmware has updates addressing dropped calls.

However, that being said, friend of mine bought a 3G iPhone in KL that used the TurboSIM method. He was also experiencing some issues, although I’m not sure it was dropped calls specifically.

  7. Wow, never thought will bump into someone that know me in real life. lol. I’m doing fine. Drop me a mail some time ;)
