iPhone 101: How to make a printscreen (screenshot)

Many people have asked me how to make a printscreen (screenshot) on the iPhone. It’s simple with firmware 2.x, simply press Home & Lock button at the same time. Your iPhone screen will flash white for a moment & play a camera snap sound. A new png file will then saved into your camera roll. This shortcut works almost on any apps I’ve tried.

Great tip Wei. Do you know how screenshots work on the old iPhone?

  2. Hi Pete, for iPhone running 1.1.x firmware (you do know even 1st generation iPhone can be upgaded to 2.x right?):

    • Your iPhone must be jailbroken
    • You need to have installer.app installed

There’re a few apps you can install to get screenshot:

Thanks Wei, a friend who owns the older version had upgraded the firmware but was not able to use the Home-Lock combination. I will send him the link to your blog. Thanks

After making a printscreen how do I get it from my iPod Touch on my computer?

Robin when I save a screenshot on my iPhone, I get to the Camera Roll and mail the clip to save it on my computer. That’s quick. Syncing it is another route. The Touch is similar I believe.
