New iPods annouced

UPDATE: Oops…I didn’t see Jibone’s entry so just treat this entry as a summary of the iPods.

Well the rumours were spot on this time. His Steve-ness just went on stage and woo-ed us with a “nearly” complete revamp of the iPod line. Let’s see what’s new.

iPod Nano

iPod Nano

Like what Kevin Rose said, the new Nano is curvier and sports a longer wide screen. What he didn’t say is the Nano will feature Coverflow like interface, accelerometer, larger capacity and will be offered in more colours than the rainbow has.

It will also be integrated with the newly announced Genius feature, where iTunes automatically find songs in your library that’ll go great together and form a “Genius” playlist. Read more about Genius here.

Since there is an accelerometer on board, Apple redesigned the way you shuffle your songs. Just shake the Nano and it shuffles to a different song in your library. How cool is that?

iPod Touch

iPod Touch

Shaped like the iPhone 3G but thinner, the iPod Touch now has volume keys! My calls have been answered! It used to be so troublesome to adjust the volume on my iPod Touch when it’s in my pocket.

It also has a built in speaker! Another of my calls answered! We’re not too sure how good the speaker is but I really hope that it’ll be better than the iPhones’.

For the gym buffs, Nike+ is also built into the iPod Touch. This means no more ugly receiver sticking out from the sexy form factor.

iPod Classic

Nothing much here. The 80GB version will be updated to 120GB while the 160GB version is discontinued.

iPod Shuffle

Nothing much here either. A few new colours added to the lineup.

Pricing announced was all in USD and I’ll update this post when I get the Malaysian pricing and of course, the availability. At the mean time, checkout the new iPods at Apple’s site.

There were other things announced as well such as iTunes 8.0, iPhone 2.1 software, new earphones and iTunes store updates but I’ll leave this for another. Got to sleep now.

  2. Yeah, I just tried it last night. You’ll need an iTunes account with the ability to purchase music.

Check our guide in getting an iTunes account using gift cards.
