New iPhone 3G at WWDC2008

Iphone 3g

Steve Jobs’ Keynote on Apple’s WWDC2008 was about the iPhone. Its an iPhone show.

Yes there is a new iPhone. Yes it is 3G. It is available in 70 countries world wide. NO, it is not officially available in Malaysia. We are not even on the waiting list. I can safely say that it wont be here anytime soon. Unofficial iPhone however will sell like hot cakes.

As you can see I am upset. If I were to ever get an iPhone I want the whole Apple experience, not some home brew hacks.

There is no much different between the new iPhone 3G and the previous model. Old iPhone could be updated to the new version of the iPhone software.

New iPhone software turns the iPhone into a serious business enterprise mobile device. It also makes the iPhone as a promising platform for portable gaming. It increased productivity with all the enterprise apps and at the same time it decreased productivity with games like Monkey Ball.

Apple launch a new web service called Mobile Me. It is basically an Exchange like service for the rest of us. It keeps the contacts, calenders, emails and such on your iPhone in sync elsewhere on your Mac.

New iPhone software is available as free update for iPhone users, but cost $9.95 for iPod Touch users.

My guess the new software would be distributed through iTunes Store. I don’t think I can buy the software update for my iPod Touch because iTunes Store is not available in Malaysia. Therefore new apps on the iTunes App Store are also beyond reach.

I guess it is time for me to Jailbreak my iPod Touch.

what the…. i cannot believe that Apple has no commitment whatsoever to Malaysia. i’ve been eagerly holding back on my decision to purchase a phone, just waiting like a kid in the candy store for the 3G version and now i get pissed on my face. this is simply obnoxious and ridiculous. if singapore’s getting it “soon”… why not us? i’m pissed off and angry about this extremely long wait to nowhere. if anybody feels like they’ve been taken for a ride, please tell Jobs eat a bowl of stupid and sit in a corner. can somebody tell Jobs to get over his hang ups about telcos and just release an open iphone? if he’s waiting for any of our backward, risk averse telcos to join the bandwagon… it ain’t gonna happen. somebody should tell him a few things… ie. we don’t know how to sell water at market prices, we give away islands and we’re just about to give away land, too. we don’t know quite a lot of things, but i do know quite a number of us here believe in this deity they call consumerism and i want my fucking 3G iphone from a legitimate vendor and not some parallel import. get with the program, Jobs. we want it and you’re killing the goodwill that Apple fans have for your products. shame on you for not addressing this.

I would think that the reason iPhone isn’t coming to Malaysia is not Apple Inc.’s fault but rather the piracy issue above others, further more, most local recording labels are giving iTunes a hard time. So it’s more of an issue of greed on the Malaysian side. But that’s just my assumption. I mean think about it, iPhone can even be sold in Botswana! Basically someone on the Malaysia side is just plain greedy.
