Beautifying your Leopard Stacks dock icon
If you are on Leopard you might have notice the Stacks feature. It’s a nice thing to have and the effect still ‘wow’s people each the time when I show it to them. Try hold down the shift key while clicking on your stacks.
Anyway, the dock icon on the stacks are dynamically generated. This is a nice idea at first, so that you will always see what is the most recent file, but isn’t that great when implemented, aesthetically speaking.
My Application Stack folder will always show the address book app as it’s the first app sorted alphabetically. My download Stacks folder will be a disk image icon most of the time.
Thanks to this Japanese blogger, there is a simple work around. Put your Stacks in a drawer.
The trick is to download some beautiful looking semi-transparent drawer folder icons. Place the icon into a Stack folder of your choice. Then using a simple terminal command change the date modified for that folder icon to some date well into the feature, year 2020 may be, this is so that it’s always on top.
You can read more on this work around here (english).
