MacBooks updated, available in stores next week

macbook_ataglance20071026.jpgNot two days after I asked “Should I buy a new MacBook?” Apple updates its MacBook and MacBook Pro lineup. The updated MacBooks get the Santa Rosa treatment which gives it the ability to handle up to 4GB of RAM, a bump in processor speed and a newer graphics card model (GMA X3100). Here’s how they stack up:

  • White/2.0GHz/80GB/Combo
  • White/2.2GHz/120GB/SuperDrive
  • Black/2.2GHz/120GB/SuperDrive

Prices are expected to stay the same for the updated MacBooks. The MacBook Pro can now be configured with an optional 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo over the previous 2.4GHz flag-ship configuration. The upgrade is USD250, no word yet on Malaysian options. The MacBooks are expected in store by Wednesday next week.

Hey, good news. I’ve been wondering when these were going to be released here after the news in the US / etc last Thursday. I’ve been holding out on my G4 ibook for Leopard and this hardwear upgrade.

I expect we’ll see a new form factor in the new year, but I kinda like the white thermoplastic. So with the new OS and new chipset I’m happy to buy next week (fingers crossed!).

Any idea where a good place to get compatible RAM is, so we can max out the spec without giving over the prices Apple askes for (and almost paying for another laptop)?
