Should I buy a new MacBook?

macbook_ataglance20071026.jpg

Earlier this month, Think Secret reported that the MacBooks were poised for a product rev. Even MacRumor’s Buyer’s Guide says not to buy a MacBook now. Knowing that Leopard was on the way, but wanting a MacBook to replace my aging iBook G4, I thought that I would just wait till Apple updated its product line.

But after seeing Leopard, I just can’t wait for Apple any more! Plus there’s no way to tell if Apple will really update the MacBook line soon

So my dear readers, what do you think I should do? Should I buy my new Mac now and enjoy Leopard now anyway? Or should I take my chances and wait it out?

  1. Very, very good question. I’m struggling with the same issue. And as I’m a student I’m really in doubt because of the 130 euro’s rebate on any iPod.

I like the white MacBook very much… but how would I feel if they release a shiny new silver MacBook which is thinner, faster, cheaper and more beautiful? Probably bad!

So I guess I’ll wait. And for these reason, I guess you should too. It’s just too painfull to have a out-of-date MacBook. ;-)

The wait is probably almost over. :D

  3. May be Apple is waiting for MacWorld Expo in January to release new hardware?

How would you feel in these two situations:

    1. You bought a macbook. Got leopard, got extremely excited about it and then found out 3 days later, they released a new Dev, with Santa Rosa Processors and it was cheaper then the one you bought only a few days ago, just because you couldn’t wait just that little bit longer

    or

    1. You wait until they release the new macbooks, with an upgraded everything (except graphics card), then once they announce the new macs, race to your local apple store. Order one, then have that feeling for the next 6 months that you have the greatest macbook quite possibly known to man, and you waited it out. You beat the beast.

One’s Harder. One’s Easier. If we all took the easy path in life, life wouldn’t be satisfactory.

    What do you think?

i bought my MBP(2.33ghz) 1 week before they update MBP to 2.4ghz,i spend 9k,hehehe,i just can wait to have MBP before,so i go for it,nothing to regret with any of Apple product, maybe just considering value for money…if u can wait, just wait, but for me,waiting is not my style, especially after Leopard release…

    According to macrumors,

Product MacBook Recommendation: Buy only if you need it - Approaching the end of a cycle Last Release May 15, 2007 Days Since Update 167 (Avg = 202)

    Better wait in my opinion.

If you really need it, go to machines. I believe they still have some black MacBook - the refurbished units for RM3+++. A bargain!

  8. Get it if you really need it, no point regretting the price drop or feature upgrade when you can’t use it.

  9. Haha, thanks for the opinions guys. I spoke to machines - they’re refurbished macbooks is a good deal, but only Core Duo, not Core 2 Duo. Looks like I’m waiting..

Hmm.. i was wrong about them not upgrading the graphics card. Turns out they did. My bad.

  12. Yes, yes. Great timing for me. The thing is, the updated Macbooks aren’t a fantastic upgrade. I’m seriously considering buying the older model for a discount. Thanks everyone for your feedback, and hi to the first time commentators.
