Weekend of Leopard: Missing my QuickSilver
Just 15 minutes through on using Leopard I’m starting to miss Quicksilver. The little swiss army knife of a launcher app. Did Leopard kill Quicksilver? Quicksilver is on the Leopard hit list as observed by Phill Ryu on his little post.
Using the new and improved Spotlight as a launcher feels weird, but it works so far. Then again Quicksilver is not just a launcher, you can do all sort of things with it. Controlling iTunes, adding contact, calendar events and such.

Beside using Spotlight, you could also drag your application folder to your dock and you’ll have a stack of your application in easy access with the new stacks feature.
TUAW did mentioned awhile back, Quicksilver developer said that QuickSilver will go open source and Leopard only next release. Most likely that means one of Mac’s best application will get better in Leopard.
By the way, Quicksilver’s site is down at the time of writing this. Anybody knows why?

Dude, Quicksilver works for me on leopard…
Well, I did update to leopard and my quicksilver still works, just need to do archive and install instead of update. The only bug is that, now the icon sits in the dock even though you did not tick the option to show icon in the dock
Anybody know where I can download it other then quicksilver.blacktree.com ??
Weird that everyone is talking about quicksilver always showing its icon in the dock, because I had no trouble making it dockless. Just unchecked the box, restarted Quicksilver and it was done.
My Quicksilver still works, but does stay in the dock. I’ve unchecked and restarted a few times with no luck.
I found out why it still shows, b52 works fine, but b51 does not.
You can download b52 from Macupdate.
If you want an alternative to launching apps from spotlight there is a new application launcher called Sapiens: http://www.donelleschi.com/sapiens/. Sapien is an application launcher that predicts the applications that you want to launch and displays them in an intuitive way that makes it easy to use your mouse to launch apps. If Saphien does not show the app you want to launch, as a back up, you can start typing and the app will quickly appear.
