The iMac Multi-Touch that would never happen
Rumors of the Muti-Touch iMacs remains to be just that, nothing but hot air. But that doesn’t stop people from dreaming. Here is a little video made by an Apple fanboy no doubt of a multi-touch iMac commercial if Apple were to made one.
Here is why a multi-touch iMac is a bad idea. The term ‘Gorilla arm’ refers to the side-effect that destroyed the idea of a touch screen monitor as a mainstream input technology. Humans aren’t designed to hold their arms in front of their faces making small motions. Keyboard and mouse combo works because we could rest our arm on the table while using such input devices.
Anyway still thinks it’s an awesome video.

Yeah. i think this idea is definitely not “user-friendly” and users will end up in the hospital for muscle-pains on the arms. hahaha.. i think a Multi-touch display has to be a tabletop version at least.
I can hold my hands above my dj mixer for hours on end, and I would be delighted if there were a multitouch mac tablet right next to it, as I can’t think of a better way to control ableton. I bet there are a zillion more applications where a multitouch display could significantly outperform a mouse and keyboard, or other dedicated hardware controller (including the dexter thing).
