August rumours: new iMac and updated iPod
We’re 2 days away from August so we might as well get into it. ThinkSecret has been saying that the new iMacs and iLife suite will drop on 7 August. Meanwhile, 9to5mac.com independently posted update also claiming that 7 August was the date for the new iMacs and probably new iPods.
Update: Engadget got invited to an Apple event this 7 August.
The new iMacs are said to feature a new brushed metal skin, something along the lines of the MacBook Pro and Mac Pro. I’m not sure why they would make the consumer desktop look like their Pro hardware, but I must say that a brushed-metal iMac sounds very appealing.

I’m even more inclined to believe this rumour following the emergence of these very genuine-looking photos of the new iMac keyboard. This keyboard is millimetres thin and looks like something that Steve Jobs would approve, although I’m not sure how comfortable they would be to type on. Check out the full gallery of images at Engadget.
I’d really love to see an iLife update too. MacScoop says that iLife has recently gone Golden Master and should ship before Leopard is release. This would be consistent with the rumoured 7 August date.

Last of all is the rumour of the new 6th generation iPods, which I frankly find to be high on the bullsh*t scale. The rumour seems to have first surfaced in 9to5mac’s article on the iMac’s release date from above. They made a lousy mockup of this “new iPod” and then ThinkSecret picks it up and claims that an iPod update is on the horizon. This to me is the least credible rumour of all and makes no sense compared to the other rumours above.
What do you think? What are we going to see in August?
