April Macfest report
The April edition of myMUG’s Macfest took place last night for the first time in a new venue – Hoxe’s Cafe, Perdana Damansara. Despite some attendees not being familiar with the new venue (like me!) and a few technical stutters in the beginning, it was a pretty fun and interesting Macfest.
Highlights of the night:
-
Redza and Shah demonstrates how to make a stop motion movie with iStopMotion from Boinx Software (shareware, USD39.95) and GarageBand. Rawr rawwrr rarrr!
-
Zalee, who’s just returned from NAB 2007 in Las Vegas, gave a first hand account of the show highlights and explains the updates to Apple’s Final Cut Studio.
-
Renowned digital photography pioneer Jen Siow announced his recent Apple certification to be an Aperture trainer and encouraged digital photography enthusiasts to try the software.
-
I made a short announcement about MYCocoaHeads ‘Get Back To Work’ Project – do check the project out and contribute some suggestions or even sign up as a developer.
-
Wei showed us how he stuffed a G4 into a standard ATX PC case. The G4 functions as his media server and is “remote-controlled” with Chicken of the VNC.
-
Last of all, Azizi (aka Suntze in the myMUG forums) introduced his new company, Legal Bytes and their solution for revolutionising the Malaysian law industry, Solu-Notes.
All in all, it was a fun and informative Macfest. The venue was very cozy and laid-back (and Hoxe’s sandwiches are excellent!) although we need to work out some of the technical issues. We’re not sure whether the next Macfest will take place at Hoxe’s again, but watch this space and we’ll be sure to tell you.
Last of all, I’ve got some photos from last night after the jump.
