Apple and Cisco patch up over iPhone trademark

Apple + Cisco

After a month of legal maneuverings, Apple and Cisco today announced that they have resolved their dispute regarding the iPhone trademark. Aww.. Apple and Cisco make nice nice. This development follows a lawsuit that Cisco filed against Apple for trademark infringement after Apple announced their iPhone at Macworld 2007 in January.

The two companies have come to an agreement to use the iPhone trademark on their own products around the world and that both sides will drop any pending lawsuits regarding the trademark. Also, the companies said that they would explore opportunities for interoperability in the areas of security, consumer and business communications. No further details were disclosed.

Yahoo! News has a more interesting take on the agreement and speculates on possible devices that may come out of Apple and Cisco’s “exploration of opportunities”. Unfortunately for me, my eyes glaze over and I automatically yawn when I hear about such legal issues. I’m just glad that Apple got to keep the name of its phone.
