Warning shot for phone manufacturers
Steve wasn’t kidding, Apple really reinvented the phone. The iPhone is awesome! I frickin’ want one!

Apple CEO Steve Jobs said that the phone was three products in one: A wide-screen iPod, mobile phone and a “breakthrough internet communications device.
Leaving behind the iPod features for a minute, the iPhone is everything I would want in a phone. It’s got calls, EDGE and WiFi (wonder if it’s got calls over WiFi), a cool SMS chat feature, an email client that looks like a desktop app, an awesome web browser and frickin’ OSX! Throw in that amazing new user interface and I’d say the mobile phone has been revolutionised by Apple. It is really the ultimate communications device.
This is a big warning shot over the bow for phone makers. Compare Motorola’s previous ROKR to this and the iPhone makes the ROKR so last century. Darn, my phone suddenly looks outdated. It’s actually got buttons! Prediction: Expect a slew of buttonless phones from other phone manufacturers after this.
Do check out the new iPhone section on the Apple website for full specs and Quicktours of the device. The site’s pretty slow at the moment though, no doubt from the huge traffic it must be experiencing at the moment. Meanwhile, check out this gallery of iPhone pics on Engadget.
I was hoping that rumours that the iPhone would come unlocked and not tied to a network would be true, because I would’ve gotten a friend of mine to bring home one from the US for me. Yep, I was willing to drop RM2k on this baby. Anyway, the iPhone will only be out in June because it’s waiting on FCC approvals but us poor guys here in Asia need to wait till 2008…
P.S. Props to Ryan Block over at Engadget for a great liveblog. If it was a magazine article I would have literally been eagerly flipping page after page.

“wonder if it’s got calls over WiFi”
Well if Apple lets 3rd party developers to developed for the iPhone, you might just see Skype then you can make calls over WiFi. I think.
