News roundup 25 July

Life got in the way, and I missed out on Microsoft’s announcement that it will launch its Zune music software and players. What the heck is Zune man? iPod killer sounds better, seriously. Look up the teaser website, Coming Zune. Uh huh. I don’t think that the iPod has to worry much. In fact, Microsoft’s partners may the ones more at risk actually.

Also missed was the apparent confirmation of Apple’s iPhone by Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer, who said: “We’re not sitting around doing nothing.” Hooray, cried Mac fans around the world. Finally we’ll have a proper music playing phone, though the name kind of sucks and may not be valid. If you’ve got a sec, why don’t you give Peter Mortenson some suggestions on what to name it.
This entry is full of blabber and conjecture, so if you’d rather wait for the whole truth, perhaps you should wait for the upcoming Worldwide Developer Conference this 7 August where Steve Jobs will no doubt make some cool announcements. By the way, here’s a handy WWDC Bingo card for you to print out and keep score. Or you could just play it online.
Something more personal now: One of the reasons I’ve been so busy is because I’ve been putting together my brand new apartment. Just wondering dear readers, should I get the iToilet and ToiletBook Pro?
