Macbooks now available in Malaysian stores

First CG Computer Macbook owner

Apple’s new Macbooks are now available in Malaysian stores, if you know where to look. CG Computers from up north in Penang is the first retail chain in Malaysia to have delivered Macbooks to their customers, to the best of my knowledge. Their website proudly announces that Edward Tan received his Macbook on June 10. (See pic, right).

I contacted CG Computers and they confirmed that they have sold a few Macbook units to date, and are currently fulfilling their pre-orders. However, they expect to only have enough stock to be put on display for walk-in customers in two weeks. CG Computers further says that they expect Macbooks to sell like hot cakes when they’re available. I’ll believe that!

Meanwhile, Macasia said that they have yet to ship any Macbooks to date when contacted earlier this afternoon. Macasia expects to have Macbooks in stock “very soon”. One interesting tidbit - the person I spoke to at Macasia said that the hold up was regulatory, and not supply-related as I thought.

However, myMUG forum members have reported that Macbooks are available in Klang Valley too, albeit in very limited numbers.

Post a comment if you’ve seen one in stores!
